Ocean Rafting owners Jan and Peter Claxton have received the Bob Porter Award at the 2026 Whitsundays Tourism Awards, marking a special moment in almost 30 years of sharing their passion for the region.
The award recognises a longstanding contribution to tourism, making it a meaningful honour for the couple behind our family owned and operated business.
For Jan and Peter, Ocean Rafting has always been personal. Their love for the Whitsundays, enthusiasm for adventure and care for the people around them have helped shape the experience our guests enjoy today.
From our yellow boats exploring the islands and reef to the teams keeping everything running behind the scenes, their passion is shared throughout the business.
Almost 30 Years of Ocean Rafting
Together with their family and crew, Jan and Peter have built Ocean Rafting into a tourism experience that brings adventure, education and a personal connection to the Whitsundays.
Their sons Cole and Kerr continue that family involvement, helping carry the business forward while keeping the values that have guided it from the beginning.
Over the years, many crew members have brought their own energy and personality to Ocean Rafting. Supporting those people, developing their skills and encouraging their enthusiasm for the region have been an important part of Jan and Peter’s journey.
A Moment to Celebrate
Receiving the Bob Porter Award is an opportunity to recognise the years of work, commitment and heart Jan and Peter have put into both Ocean Rafting and the wider tourism community.
It is also a moment to reflect on everyone who has shared that journey: crew past and present, guests, agents, industry partners and fellow local operators.
