Whitehaven Beach stretches for some three nautical miles up the eastern side of the Whitsundays’ largest island. It is composed of pure white silica sand and the aboriginal name for it translates as “whispering sands”. Unlike regular sand, the sand on Whitehaven Beach doesn’t retain heat making it comfortable to walk on in any conditions. The very fine sand is 98% pure silica and is great for polishing jewellery!
The swirling sands of Hill Inlet at the Northern End of Whitehaven Beach is a picture postcard destination and the lookout at Hill Inlet boasts unparalleled views of the area.
