Say g’day to Tins 4 Fins!
Ocean Rafting is proud to introduce you to our brand new initiative – Tins 4 Fins. Created by our very own and very passionate crew-member and eco-host Jess, this initiative sees all recyclable cans and plastic containers from our tours collected and deposited at our local Containers for Change QLD collection point. All proceeds from this goes to fund and support a range of environmental projects, such as beach clean-ups, wildlife research and more!
Living in the hot tropics means there are plenty of thirsty folk about while out enjoying the Visit Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia with us! Now, we’re stoked to be able to – not only avoid these containers ending up in landfill – but to put these funds to good use, and to help care for our beloved Great Barrier Reef!
Already, this Tins 4 Fins initiative has managed to raise enough money to charter one of our vessels and a team of passionate crew and Master Reef Guides to head down to some of the southern Whitsunday Islands to remove marine debris and clean these pristine beaches.
Marine debris, or ocean plastic, continues to pose a major threat to our oceans – and the Great Barrier Reef is not immune. This plastic waste can enter the Marine Park from both international currents, and through careless local activity. This plastic pollution can suffocate wildlife, leach toxic chemicals into the ecosystem and break down into micro-plastics.
Stay tuned as we bring you more information about this incredible initiative, and what else our team have been up to in protecting our patch of paradise!
A big shout-out to Jess and the team for not only getting Tins 4 Fins off the ground, but for their commitment to doing their bit to help care for the Great Barrier Reef!
