Protecting our Patch with the Tourism Reef Protection Initiative!
As part of the Tourism Reef Protection Initiative, funded by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, as part of the Australian Government‘s Reef Protection package, Ocean Rafting is proud to have the opportunity to continue to provide vital data to the managers of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park while enhancing our site stewardship activities.
Already, Ocean Rafting has submitted 1,473 Eye on the Reef surveys plus 1,514 Photopoint enhancement images, uploaded hundreds of sightings, controlled 1,101 coral-eating pest species, planted 1,499 corals and trained 21 staff on how to make all of this happen! This data is fed directly to the Reef Authority to help gain an insight into the health of the Whitsundays fringing Reefs.
Not only does this aid in the overall health of our beloved #GreatBarrierReef, it also enables our team to gain a richer understanding of the World Heritage area. This knowledge can now be forwarded to our guests, to ensure they receive the ultimate Visit Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia and #GreatBarrierReef experience!
